After six months of just being born in the US, my parents shipped me off to be raised by my aunt and grandmother in a narrow high rise house in the suburbs of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I spent the first four years of my childhood there, learning all about the values and traditions that I came from, until it was time for school to start. I was brought back to the states by my parents, not knowing a single sentence in English but still ever-so ecstatic to be starting something new.
My passion for videography began early. I would drag my friends outside with nothing but a laptop webcam and we'd film music videos, skits, and might have racked up a few complaints from our neighbors as well. But nothing could stop me from telling the story I wanted to tell. As I continued to grow, I began venturing into other creative communities like automotive films as well as lifestyle storytelling.
However, through high-school and college I struggled with the idea of pursuing a creative career. Coming from a traditional family, I was encouraged to explore fields that were seemingly more stable. But there's nothing I value more than being my fullest, most unapologetic self.
So halfway through college, I packed my bags and shipped myself off to start my career. Jumping from country to country, balancing being a full-time student while still maintaining a full-time job was one of the trickiest routes I had ever navigated, but these spontaneous, life-altering decisions brought me here. I'm thankful for the new home I've found in Stockholm, Sweden, and for the opportunities that have enriched my day to day life, all because I refused to choose to be anything other than me.
I find graciousness in the fact that I can say I do what I love every single day.
